Touch of Excellence

This morning, I read The Future of Fashion, Part Six: Alber Elbaz on Style.com. This is a series by Dirk Standen where he gathers the perspectives of different journalists, designers, and insiders about the ever changing economic and technological changes in the fashion industry as we enter this new decade.

I have admired Elbaz's work at Lanvin for some time now. Lanvin is certainly one of the labels I look forward to every season. But I must also say I find Elbaz to be just a very cool guy. I love hearing him speak, he's very gentle, kind, and thoughtful in his message, and he seems to just have a lovely spirit. When he comes out to take his bow at the end of a show, everyone cheers and smiles, which to me, is a testament to his personality.

Pre-Fall Extravaganza

The Pre-Fall 2010 collections are honestly giving me fashion fever. Louis Vuitton, Lanvin and Nina Ricci have rounded out the season with amazingly chic collections outfitted for woman I hope one day to meet.
I have a meeting right now for my school newspaper, The Hampton Script, but I just wanted to make this entry before I left. This is precisely what I love about fashion though. In lieu of all such economic crisis and just sadness across the world, this industry steadily keeps our hopes alive with these creations that when shown, all one can do is smile. (At least for me).
When houses part of not jut fashion history, but world history, like Versace are considering closing their US Press offices, you know we’re in bad times. However, one must wonder why Chanel, which, to my knowledge, is one of the wealthiest houses ever, has had to let 200 employees go.
Either way, gazing into the screen of my laptop here in the dark of my dorm room, I so hope for the days I can see Elsa Sylvan sashay past me in a Lanvin stunner as in the photo above a la Joe Zee (Elle) or Nicole Phelps (Vogue).
So ladies, start saving, because Fall 2010 will be one very glamorous season.

The Getty Center

The Gardens
This past Tuesday, I had the opportunity to visit The Getty Center in Los Angeles. Though I am a Southern California native, I had never been to The Getty Center (only The Getty Villa, in Malibu). But what a day it was.
I went specifically for the Drawings by Rembrandt and His Pupils: Telling the Difference and Irving Penn: Small Trades exhibitions, but found I enjoyed the East Pavilion most with 17th-century Baroque art, including Dutch, French, Flemish, and Spanish paintings. Especially the sculptures and Italian decorative arts dating from 1600 to 1800.
Despite the over-priced museum cafe and incredibly sore feet, it was a definite highlight of this winter break. Can't wait until I can go back!

Natasha Poly + Gucci: Could It Get Any Better?

As though I could love Gucci any more, love Natasha Poly any more, I just found a way to make that possible. Here is a preview of Poly for the Gucci SS 2010 campaign. It's just fabulous, as always, and I cannot get enough of it. Frida Giannini is fantabulous and Natasha just keeps giving it to me. Check out the full campaign at Fashionologie and scoop on Poly's future with the glorious Italian brand. But seriously, look at this photo, could it get any better?

J. Mendel, Pre Fall 2010

I am absolutely in love with the Pre Fall collection for J. Mendel. He channels my love for this type of glamour and it is always such a joy to click through his collections. I just wanted to post these two photo's because I could not close my browser without posting something on this fabulous collection. The rest of my favorites will be posted soon. I have school work to tend to for the moment. Do check out Style.com for the complete review by Romney Leader. It really is a thrill.

Pour les Garçons

Finally!! Something for us boys! Looks like sister superstars Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte have taken the time to design a line of mens crew neck and cardigan sweaters for Opening Ceremony. The sweaters are très delicate, but look to be pretty damn awesome. As you see, paired with just a white button down and black skinnies... you don't need anything else!

The only factor that threw me is that they're a rather pricey $2706. In college, looking to save up for Miami for Spring Break, and just trying to live, the closest I'll get to these sweaters is exactly where I am now: my laptop. But for any gentleman looking to add some Rodarte to their wardrobe, it appears many are already excited over at Fashionista, so whip out those AMEX Platinum's and werk!
*Happy New Year*

Mary Helen’s Dishes Out Down South Flavor

This was a big issue for me. I had two articles (the first "Carol's Daughter Teams Up with Disney") published and took the entire Lifestyles section. I hope you all take the time to read the articles, as I work very hard on them and look toward improving with every issue.
Check for photos and restaurant information after the jump. Enjoy!!

Tommy’s Satisfies Customers’ Wallets and Appetites

I decided to restructure the format in which I post my articles for the Hampton Script. After all, it's my blog, why not customize it a little bit. I hope the change is welcomed and continue reading for photos of the restaurant!

The Arrival

I am truly just a happy little boy this evening. Earlier today, I heard on the radio the SATC 2 trailer would be premiering tonight and look, it is here!! As though it could get any better, it just did. I have already watched the trailer five times and will more than likely refer back to it as the night progresses. The trailer and photos from filming are all after the jump. Enjoy!!

“That’s the kind of girl I like”

The Spring-Summer ad campaign for Lanvin is all about motion. Creative director, Alber Elbaz said, "I thought maybe we need a bit of action," to Miles Socha of WWD. Featuring model Jamie Bochert, I think the ad is a stunner. I loved the Spring-Summer presentation in the black and white of the beginning and loads of color and all of the glitter Paris had to offer by the end. Elbaz staged a glorious scene with the girls walking down an impossibly long runway with vintage film lights to line the foggy runway in an industrial type building.

It's Monday...

It has really been a fantastic day. I drove into Santa Monica, battled the fact my usual and stress free parking lot was turned into an ice skating rink (so if you're on the corner of Arizona & 5th, you have been warned), and met up with my friend Autumn to have lunch at Wokcano. I had never been, nor had she, and we both loved it. The ambiance was exactly what I love: dark, sleek, and chic.

The Olsens

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are in one word: superstars. They are some of the hardest working girls in the business and serious fashionistas. Perusing through Style.com this afternoon, I took this feature entitled, "What Would the 00's Have Been Without the Olsens?" And I thought, they're right! What would it have been like without them? Promoting venti Starbucks latte's, the biggest of big [designer] sunglasses, the literal poster girls for bohemian chic - they're kind of amazing and I love them. Check out the slideshow Style.com has of the girls, it's so great. It begins with the girls in magenta and turquoise tube tops with their perfect blonde hair and ends with Ashley in Azzedine Alaïa and Mary-Kate in Giambattista Valli. *amaze*

Triumph Magazine

For my Intro to Visual Media class, we were asked to create a print publication, photographic essay or video production as our final project. My group chose to do a print publication, Triumph Magazine, which is a lifestyle magazine for those interested in fashion, love, arts and culture. Basically, it's a little bit of something for everyone!

NINE

Photo: Collider.com
I simply have to share how excited I am about NINE, set for release December 25, 2009. From director Rob Marshall, of Chicago, comes this absolutely glamourous story of Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis), a world famous film director as he confronts an epic mid-life crisis with both creative and personal problems. He must balance the many women of his life, including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Sophia Loren), according to IMDb.

Marc Jacobs for Interview Magazine June 2008

On Critics:
"For people who are all about change-people who are supposed to be intellectually and culturally drawn to the idea of change and how the voice of a creative person affects the world on a bigger scale than just the canvas-I would expect a person in that position to have that open mind."

December Mags

Last Friday, I finally took the time to catch up on my magazine reading. I feel like I have just neglected my magazines this semester, because after reading all day long for school, I simply cannot read anymore - even it is my handy Vogue.
So just wanted to share some magazines I found really great in the month of December.

Lara Stone: Face of Louis Vuitton Spring 2010

Current British Vogue covergirl and Dutch model du jour, Lara Stone is the new face of the Spring 2010 ad campaign for Louis Vuitton.

Having featured Madonna for the past two ad campains, artistic director, Marc Jacobs, is said to have wanted to work with a supermodel.

The ad, shot by Steven Meisel, was described as fresh, summery, whimsical, young and optimistic by Antoine Arnault, Vuitton's communication director.
Looks pretty fab to me.
